Amplifying Voices
The Strategic Initiative:
In 2023, Director David Mesfin undertook a documentary project, “Wade in the Water: A Journey into Black Surfing and Aquatic Culture,” to share the untold stories of Black surfing and its 1,000-year-old legacy. This documentary premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Fest in 2023.
Mix Theory Studios is proud to be among the partners who supported this film.
The Final Outcome:
Mix Theory Studios worked with We Are Royale, a production studio in Los Angeles, to capture the local voice talent and surfer, GiGi Lucas, who was featured in the animated introduction to this ground-breaking documentary.
GiGi is the founder of SurfearNEGRA, a nonprofit organization focused on bringing cultural and gender diversity to the sport of surfing.
